YOUNG GIANTS: SEKYS (SRG)

Sekys or his birth name is Muhammad Haqqullah bin Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, the main player in the Jungler position for the Selangor Red Giants Esports team (SRG). His name is no stranger to the Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang (MLBB) gaming community in Malaysia, especially when he was named ‘Finals MVP’ after the ‘Grand Final’ match for the MSCxEWC 2024 tournament in Riyadh, last year.

Born in Marang, Terengganu, Sekys, has been very interested in video games since he was 7 years old, especially Dota. During the cyber cafe era, Sekys was very active in the world of esports until he managed to win several amateur tournaments for Dota. Since then, Sekys began to realize that e-sports can indeed generate his daily income by playing competitively.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Sekys started switching to the mobile game which is Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang and he thought that the game was easier to play because it only needed a smartphone. His interest in the game deepened until several professional players and big names in the e-sports world began to recognize Sekys, including ‘2ez4pv’, a former professional player for the Saiyan and Geek Fam teams.

Seeing the potential that Sekys had at that time, Jep, a former professional esports player, offered Sekys to be one of the players on his team known as ‘Cicharaga’. This was the starting point for Sekys’ journey and development in the MLBB arena. After that, Sekys began to spread his wings to Kuala Lumpur to join the On Air Esports team when he was 15 years old.

Sekys’ performance with his team at that time was excellent enough that they created an opportunity to play with Homebois Academy, under the care of the Homebois team, a respected team in the Malaysian esports community. At that time, Sekys began to receive in-depth exposure to a career in the esports field. After eight months, his talent and teammates began to be spotted by the Elux Esports team, which was then under the advice of Mr. Simon Lim, Mr. Lokman Hakem and Mr. Chang Kok Leong (Gary).

Sekys' career as a Semi-Professional player with the Elux team continued to shine, as they managed to dominate almost all Tier-2 tournaments including the Esportsmy MLBB Championship and the MSPC Semi-Pro tournament for 2 seasons. In December 2022, the dream of competing in the Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia stage, Sekys and his Elux teammates successfully qualified for the tournament for the 11th season after defeating the Tupai Esports team in the MPL qualifiers, after two attempts to get a place to play and compete with other top players in the e-sports world.

In early January 2023, Sekys, then 16 years old and his teammates received an offer to be among the first players with the new e-sports team established by Selangor FC, known as Yoodo Red Giants (Now known as Selangor Red Giants Esports). He has had bittersweet memories throughout four seasons with SRG. Despite being young and receiving a lot of criticism at the beginning, the coaching staff still believes in Sekys' potential, "The first time I saw Sekys playing, he had a lot of potential that can be polished despite being young. On top of that, he also has a high fighting spirit in him. As a coach, I would like to coach players like him," said the tactical coach of the Selangor Red Giants team, Poon Kok Sing or better known as 'Ozoraveki'.

As the seasons and tournaments passed, Sekys began to show maturity in his game. As a result, Sekys and the team lifted four championship trophies from six tournaments they participated in. Among the proudest moments was when he successfully represented Malaysia to win his first international championship and was crowned the Finals MVP (or best player) of the MSCxEWC 2024 tournament. Since then, Sekys has become a well known figure in the esports community all over the world, and he has also been labelled as the ‘Sky Prince’ in the competitive arena. Expressing gratitude for all his efforts and achievements with his teammates, “Alhamdulillah, I did not expect that 2024 would be meaningful enough for my esports career, a year that I can say was quite outstanding for myself and my teammates. I am very grateful to be surrounded by teammates who help each other, the management who always trust us and the family members who always pray for our success,” said the 19-year-old player.

Talking about the new year, Sekys is determined to stay focused on trying to achieve more championships with SRG, "All these successes are not for myself, but for our family and Malaysians. For 2025, we (teammates) will continue to give our best and prove that the Malaysian esports team can give a big challenge in the international level," added Sekys.

Apart from that, he also hopes to be part of the national team once again, for tournaments such as the 2025 SEA Games which will be held in Thailand at the end of this year.

The management and the entire Selangor Red Giants Esports family always believe and pray for Sekys' success with the team in the 2025 journey. Good luck, Adik!
